A Couple of New Poems
One from today and one from yesterday...
After a Rainy Week
Beneath thick yellow moss
hides the roof of the rental house
pale brown and dripping water
into clogged gutters. The man
who mows the lawn, I used
to think he was the owner
but he’s the man from next door.
He mows around the rental house
to keep the dandelions down.
**
Clean
I sweep then scrub
the kitchen floor, its pattern
resembling marble, off-white
with thin veins resembling
pine needles or mud
or coffee grounds ground down
by my shoe. I mop
and spare my knees the pain
of kneeling, spare the floor
any indignity of inspection
of its imitation ritz.
