Maybe the Family

Maybe they don’t mind gay people who aren’t

in the family. Maybe on television.

Maybe cable. Maybe they have

sensitive stomachs. Last week they grew

terribly ill just from trying

a new restaurant, their legs and feet

swollen from too much sodium.

Maybe they’re old and tired

and set in their ways. Dad says don’t

be angry. He says they mean well.

Maybe when they send their love, they mean it.
