Dark rocks, crooked edge
of the shore: Willamette River
in thick black pen, filled in

with watercolor—brown,
cloudy tan, then blue

where powerboats race,
making waves which ducks
bear effortlessly, feet

marking their fluid lines,
untraceable under the surface.
